Staircase Series Part V HYATT ANDAZ, WALL ST. 2017 YEAR New York, United States LOCATION Workspace11, in conjunction with The Rockwell Group, designed and built a four-story curved spiral staircase that spans a 60ft clear opening in the main lobby of the Wall Street Andaz hotel.  The entire structure is supported by a 12” diameter mitered and welded steel tube frame that is hidden under the skin of the stairs. The Workspace11 design team worked closely with Forrest Perkins Interior Design to develop the  design that was inspired by the nautilus shell. Staircase Series Part I ANDAZ, MAUI 2013-2014 Maui, Hawaii Workspace11 worked with The Rockwell Group to design, engineer, and fabricate the feature spiral staircase in the main lobby for the Andaz, Maui. The stair design, based on the interior structure of a nautilus shell, is a free-floating form fabricated from cold molded white oak using the same techniques used to build a ship’s hull. The internal structure is engineered from curved CNC steel tubes. Introducing Workspace Editions, functional objects by visual artists.  Workspace Editions is a project-based initiative, founded to foster and support the creative process of artists working primarily in sculpture. Housed in a 6,000-square-foot workshop in Powerhouse Arts on the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, the initiative operates as an open platform and supportive framework for selected artists; offering artists studio space and access to fabrication facilities. Workspace11 has over 20 years of experience in three-dimensional fine arts fabrication. Located in the Powerhouse Arts building, our workshop is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment, enabling us to bring artists’ vision to life. The possibilities are limitless. Our technical facilities include large format 5-axis waterjet cutting, CNC machining, 3D printing, glass fusing, and slumping, as well as expertise in all aspects of metal forming, fabrication, assembly, and finishing. The first photo is the edition size of The Butterfly Effect which measures 16 inches in diameter. In the second photo, you see a large-scale version of The Butterfly Effect which measures 20 feet in diameter. The 16-inch is on display in Norman Mooney’s workspace within Powerhouse Arts.
